ID SPECIFICATION FOR
THE PERFECT FIT
For the perfect fit of apple’s AirPods, the case was given 0.1mm tolerance to allow users to switch cases easily yet securely hold the Airpods. Studied the perfect location to fit the Popsocket’s signature expandable accordion on to the back of the case without blocking the path of the top part of the case that opens and closes with a hinge.
There are two flat surfaces that hold two different functions. The flat surface on the top exists as a place for the Popsocket’s logo, while the flat surface on the bottom allows Airpods the ability to stand.
There is a finger recess on the opening part of the case that latches on to the concave section on the AirPods that enables the case to stay fixed on the product.
HANDS-ON PROTOTYPING &
USER EXPERIENCE TESTING
Many prototypes were made by 3D printing. The prototypes were placed on some of the existing Popsocket’s products such as Popchain and on the Popwallet+ to test the usability and to compare it with the competitor’s existing products. The prototypes were also used to test the wall thickness to ensure that the product was wirelessly chargeable even after the case was on.

FUNCTION DRIVEN
MATERIAL/FINISH CHOICES
Each material chosen for the case has a functional purpose. The outer part of the shell has a matte finish to give it a soft, pleasant texture. The top part of the case has a glossy finish inside to give it more grip to prevent it from falling off the case. The inside of the bottom case is a softer matte finish than the outer surface to allow some grip but also to allow it to come off easily.
